Every year for the last few years I have received a beautiful calendar from the East Bay Regional Parks Department, one of the perks of having an annual pass. Every year I look at it and think “This year I will hike the park in this months photo”, and every year I don’t. At the end of this year I discover that the EBRPD and Kaiser Permanente sponsor a hiking challenge, with a lovely guide book, T shirt and, if you complete the challenge, a nice enamel pin. The challenge kicks off on January 4, 2018, so I can’t get to this years guide, but the calendar starts the year with Garin/Dry Creek Pioneer park.
The twin parks lie in the hills behind Hayward and Fremont, and I am proposing that we try a 5.5 mile loop trail entirely within Garin Regional Park. The clockwise loop will include one of the highest peaks in the park, hopefully affording bay views.
